Resizing a ring is a professional job that should only be done by an experienced jeweller.
There are two common methods;
- Stretching the band. Done with a machine or by gently tapping out the band with a leather or rubber mandrill (hammer). This can only be done for small increases in size but is a great way to increase the size of a ring that fits but just feels too tight.
- Cutting and resoldering the band. For reductions a small piece of band is removed, and for enlarging a small amount is added. Care should be taken not to subject the stone to much heat as this can cause it to break or alter its look. Some stones require removing from their setting before resizing that involves heat.
Not all rings in the Wizard Of Auz Jewellery Collection can be easily resized. This will be your responsibility if you choose to keep the piece regardless of size.
Some designs are easier to size than others;
- Designs with detail on the bands are harder to enlarge but still possible to reduce.
- Designs with simple bands are the easiest to resize.
Gold plated rings can not be resized by conventional means because;
- Stretching will leave cracks and weaknesses in the gold-plate.
- Cutting and soldering requires heat that will melt away the gold into the silver base.
- Repolishing using a machine over gold plate will polish it away.
However, resizing can be done by a professional if they can replate features on your piece.
Any work or alterations to your piece void the warranty.
