Just released from Sean & Wendy Mahoney's personal collection, this is a rare opportunity to purchase in Australia a beautiful quality & fully functional concert baby grand Schiedmayer piano. 

Built in Stuttgart in Germany in March 1916 using European rosewood, this Schiedmayer has nearly all its original parts including all but one of it's original strings. Each part has been meticulously maintained & was serial numbered according to the tradition of the leading piano manufacturers.

Jessica Roemischer plays from her album 'Haven' at The Blue Bicycle Gallery in Byron Bay. This recital was performed on a beautiful Schiedmayer parlour baby grand piano built in Stuttgart, Germany in March 1916, and has most of it's original parts & strings.

This rare example from the classic age of German piano building has most of its original parts. Schiedmayer were one of the main rivals of Steinway & Sons & their pianos were built to the same exacting standards, incorporating their own unique patents.

A detailed online search over several months has yeilded much information on the master crafts-people of Schiedmayer and the long history of the family business. When this piano was built in March 1916, Stuttgart was under the control of the German war office. Most men were at war on the Western Front which yeilded a huge number of casualties. having survived the first world war, the Scheidmayer factory where this piano was built was destroyed in the second world war, and along with it, it's museum, piano collection, & wealth of records were lost. It is speculated in collectors forums (mostly available online translated from German) that this piano along with others from the depths of the first world war were most probably built by women since they were staffing the factories whilst the men were in the trenches. It is a testament to the robustmenss & quality of the build that this piece is here today nearly 100 years later, still performing to a public standard with most of it's original parts.

Shown here are specific parts & features of this stunning instrument including the remarkably few abrasions she has sustained over the past century. The most significant restoration that needs to take place as far as the bodywork is concerned is simply the re-shellacing of the rosewood veneer. One of the photos below shows how the sunlight has faded the shellac where it has been exposed. Stripping this shellac & reapplying a new coat will bring the rosewood up to it's original glory.
