If you are packing stones for transportation or storage, wrap them carefully with plenty of padding.
After many years of experience, through trial and unfortunate error, we have found the following system to be best.
Make sure you have time to do it properly as a rushed job can end in disappointment.
Carefully wrap lots of kitchen or toilet tissue paper around the piece until it is mummified, then wrap in an outer layer of bubble-wrap (which is quite bulky) or several sheets of newspaper. Add extra padding around vulnerable points, edges and protrusions. Label the packed item to help identification. Pack stones tightly in a strong box, with newspaper buffers between each piece. Make sure you keep the heaviest and largest items at the bottom – make sure the box is strong enough to hold all the stones. The less the stones can move around, the less they are likely to break.
Store stones in a cool dark place – away from kids who love crystals and packages!
